So said my Irish grandma, we called "NANNY"... Almost every weekend, she come to us from her Brooklyn apartment to help my Mom who was raising 7 of us, while Dad was in NYC earning the bacon.. Invariably, she came loaded with boxes of sweeties from Ebinger's - a famous Brooklyn bakery.

Reading the previous Wiki article, I learned that in the 1960's, Ebinger's policy of hiring only white women was challenged by civil rights groups who staged boycotts.
While the original recipe for the Ebinger's Blackout cake is lost, some bakeries have tried to recreate it.
