It will also put a strain on our local law enforcement and government services. Our children grow up on Long Island with little exposure to gambling. Families worry about what impact a casino along the Meadowbrook Parkway just off Hempstead Turnpike would have on their children. We are concerned about our college kids attending Nassau Community College and Hofstra University who would be within walking distance of a casino at an age when they are particularly vulnerable to addiction. "Parents have enough trouble struggling to raise their children in a world where drug addiction is on the rise. Do we want to now add gambling addiction to their worries," says LI CAWS Director Claudia Borecky.
