I started these reflections after a topic that was presented at our July Men2Men's monthly men's circle in Brentwood. It was entitled "I THIRST."

This morning's August council speaker continued this theme...So, I took it as an opportunity to keep reflecting...

Water Quality

In our circle this morning, several men shared their personal experiences of being in remote arid places in this country and feeling thirsty, accompanied by concerns that their water needs might not be met.

For many on our shared planet, this fear is a daily occurrence.

Looking further, we find people all over our shared planet are also victims of water pollution.

Pollution of the Hudson River

The Clearwater and the Clearwater Festival have worked to draw attention to the problem of pollution of the Hudson River. Pollution in the river has included mercury contamination and sewage dumping, but the most discussed issue has been General Electric's contamination of the river with Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) between 1947 and 1977. This pollution caused a range of harmful effects to wildlife and people who eat fish from the river or drink the water.The activism of folk singer Pete Seeger and the Clearwater led to the area being designated as one of the Superfund sites.
