Thomas Berry...A Passion for our Environment

Writer: Thomas TittmannThomas Tittmann

The Universe is a Communion of Subjects Rather than A Collection of Objects

In this Place, we strive to embody The Great Work envisioned by Thomas Berry, C.P. “The work of ensuring a just, healthy, beautiful, and sustainably life-giving world for future generations.” Drawing inspiration from Pope Francis and discerning the movement of God’s Spirit: We will listen carefully, and intentionally respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. We will create a Place of sacred hospitality, prayer, and restoration. And we will provide a space for encounter, dialogue, education and service, working toward an integral human ecology.

CHRIST OF THE FOREST: REST AND RENEWAL WITH NATURE Presented by: Mary Frohlich, RSCJ 9/22 - 9/23

When Jesus saw that his disciples were becoming exhausted, he took them to the forests of Mount Hermon for rest and renewal. In a time when many are experiencing deep exhaustion, he invites us to come away for a while and reconnect with the springs of living water flowing at the heart of all life. This retreat will offer times of guided reflection, contemplative prayer, and Forest Therapy,* all centered around the theme of deepening our relationship with the One who lovingly dwells in each and every created being. The retreat will begin Friday evening with supper and conclude with Mass. Departure will be by 5 pm Saturday.

*Forest Therapy is guided time outdoors discovering and exploring our relationships with the living creatures and environments that surround us. The grounds of Thomas Berry Place (although not forested) offer a refuge of calm and natural beauty in the midst of the city.
